NRS Regional Training: Your Success, Our Future: Measuring Achievement after Exit

The employment and credential attainment indicators defined by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) are challenging to collect because states must collect them up to one year after participants exit each period of participation. This workshop will conceptualize the data collection process for these indicators as a system, using a framework where data collection begins at intake, continues while the participant is enrolled and becomes most active after participant exit. The goals of the training are for state teams to:

  • Adopt a framework for understanding the data collection process for postexit indicators
  • Identify areas of the system in need of improvement, using the framework
  • Develop strategies to promote understanding of local programs about the importance of collecting data for the postexit indicators
  • Develop an action plan for state improvements of data collections for the postexit indicators
  • Develop considerations for local engagement of data collection for the postexit indicators

NRS Targeted Training: Evaluation Learning Community 2019

The Evaluation Learning Community (ELC) is an NRS targeted training where states will learn the principles of evaluation and how to conduct valid evaluations to answer critical questions around program practices and procedures. Through participation in the ELC, states will engage in a 3-stage process: (1) identify research questions, (2) design a research approach, and (3) analyze and interpret results to make decisions about how to make improvements. By using this evaluation process, states can determine if they are implementing programming as it was intended, identify what is working across program implementation, and decide at the end of the program year or project completion whether an initiative was successful.

This three-part institute will include distance learning, face-to-face, and team coaching components that begin in late October 2019 and conclude in December 2020. Part 1 of the institute will begin online on about October 29, 2019. Part 2 is a three-day, face-to-face workshop at AIR’s offices in Crystal City, VA, which will take place November 19–21, 2019. Part 3 is team coaching with each state that will last 12 months, concluding in December 2020.
