Data Tools for Monitoring and Program Improvement

The state data system allows state office staff to track data for all Rhode Island adult education programs at the state and local level, including participants, classes, and staff. The system collects all NRS-required data and generates required and optional NRS tables at the local and state levels.

In addition to tracking federally reported measures such as skill gains, demographic information, and attendance hours, system functionality allows the state office the flexibility to disaggregate data in order to monitor outcomes for at the local and state levels, and for specific student subpopulations. In addition to the reporting functions and verification controls in the state’s data system, state office staff carries out quarterly data audits of grantees’ NRS reportable data.

Finally, the state’s quarterly reporting process for local grantees incorporates an Accountability Tool that provides a framework for reflecting on progress on annual targets and a basis for risk assessment.
